The New York Center for Orthognathic and Maxillofacial Surgery (NYCOMS) features a team of highly trained and experienced oral surgeons. We provide a full line of both simple and complex oral surgeries to patients from newborns to adults. Our services include, but are not limited to:

Orthognathic surgery: Orthognathic surgery, or corrective jaw surgery, is our primary focus. Our multi-stage process from evaluation through post-surgical orthodontic appliances is carefully designed to meet each patient’s individual needs. We provide adult surgeries as well as pediatric and neonatal orthognathic surgeries, which are performed in tandem with a multi-specialty team of pediatric experts.

Zygoma and dental implants/jaw reconstruction: Tooth replacement may be necessary as part of jaw reconstruction, or due to severe dental trauma or decay. Some patients retain enough strong jawbone for dental implant placement, while others need bone grafting first. Another option for the upper jaw is zygoma implants, which are anchored to the cheekbones and allow us to place a full arch of fixed replacement teeth right away.

Craniofacial surgery/alveolar cleft bone grafting/reconstruction: Craniofacial surgery is the repair of trauma or birth defects in the skull. It can be performed at any age, but birth defect repairs are often performed on infants between 3 and 12 months old. Cleft lip (opening in the upper lip) surgery is usually performed at 3 to 6 months of age, while cleft palate (opening in the roof of the mouth) surgery is generally done at 9 to 12 months of age. Later surgeries such as alveolar cleft bone grafting are performed later to improve both aesthetics and jaw function.

Maxillofacial Pathology: Diseases of the mouth and jaw tissues such as lesions, tumors, salivary gland disease, and systemic illnesses that cause oral symptoms are all part of maxillofacial pathology. We carefully evaluate each case to ensure that our diagnosis and treatment are appropriate for you.

Temporomandibular Joint Surgery: The temporomandibular joint is a sliding hinge between the jawbone and the skull. A variety of factors can cause this joint to become misaligned, resulting in TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder). Cases range from mild to severe. Mild cases can often be treated non-surgically. For more severe cases, we offer a variety of surgical solutions from minimally invasive arthroscopy to full joint replacement.
